Is it ok to change from 2nd to 3rd person in an essay?

i mean like once in a while i use words like you (in general), and then i switch to they and them. do i have to stick to on throut the whole thing? i mean i switch it at appropriate times..

    If that’s your writing style, go for it, as long as reader’s won’t be confused. It’s probably better if the essay is on history or politics that you stick to one person, but if it’s some sort of free write then it doesn’t matter how you tell it.

    It is always a good idea to keep the same narrative perspective throughout an essay. Otherwise it makes it harder to read and it seems less professional. You can do it, but if its for a grade dont be surprised if you lose points for it.
